What you Will Find On This Site
Most people visit a site like this because they are looking for guidance on how to address an aspect of their life.
Some are looking for support in finding a way towards their sense of freedom. They want to the freedom to be themselves in this life and not be controlled by other’s opinions and demands.
Then there are some who are wanting resources to help them on their way to a happier and more fulfilling life.
Of course, there are some who end up here because of synchronicity, chance, or the stars determined it to be, or they were in some way guided to stumble into this site.
All of the content on this site comes from a holistic psychology perspective. That is because there has been a wealth of information, knowledge, skills and wisdom accumulated over 27 years of psychology practice. This now comes to you in a different format, that of a holistic counsellor and therapist.
Why Integrity Matters
This isn’t mainstream psychology or counselling.
The services and content here come out of a spiritual perspective for living in a physical world.
It is the perspective and practice at Integrity Matters we are all spiritual beings having a physical experience. It is therefore important to treat yourself and others as spiritual beings and not physical conclusions.
It is our philosophy to focus on the spirit of an individual (in and outside of counselling), and nurture his or her spirit and our own. This way we are able to mind our own business when it comes to the physical – non-judgemental, acceptance.
It also means we have a direct connection and openness to a healing process.
Evidence for adopting a spiritual perspective in life and therapy.
Spirituality here is not about religion. While it may include religion for some individuals, spirituality is recognising the existence and importance of a Universal benevolent force or energy, an intrinsic, all pervasive energy/light that represents our spirit. One may choose to be involved in the practice of a particular religion and this may support the spirituality. At the same time spirituality is bigger than religion. There is no ego in spirituality while there can be in a religion.
Dr Lisa Miller and her team at Columbia University, Teachers College, along with a handful of pioneers around the world have gathered scientific data that supports spirituality as an innate biological part of each of us. Just as we have parts of the brain allocated to speech, walking and so on, there is a part of the brain allocated to spirituality.
Research using a fMRI studies show the effects on a subject’s brain when engaging in meditative and spiritual practices, and how this part of the brain responds to spirituality thinking. The same part of the brain allocated to spirituality shrinks when an individual is depressed.
Dr Miller and her team established through empirical research the following, about adolescents who have “a personal sense of spirituality. These adolescents are: –
80 percent less likely to suffer from ongoing and recurrent depressions
40 percent less likely to become heavy substance users or abusers
80 percent less likely to have dangerous or unprotected sex
more likely to have positive markers for thriving and high levels of academic success.
“… there is no single factor that will protect your adolescent like a personal sense of spirituality.” Dr Lisa Miller
The principles underpinning this site can be found here.
Integrity Matters is a ‘term’ as well as a name, and it has the same meaning but on different levels.
Integrity here refers to – alignment + honour + truthfulness + code of behaviour
Matters here refers to – It has importance + life affairs + something made visible
When we have (alignment, honour, truthfulness, code of behaviour) in our spiritual life it will be expressed in our physical world, our life affairs, through our relationships and in our everyday affairs.
Integrity does matter if we are going to live a complete life and have a happy life.
When we consider ourselves to be anything less than our spirit-self having a physical experience, we compromise our integrity.
Here you will find access to a number of free resources, options for one-on-one counselling sessions, surrogate counselling for children and young people, and an invitation for membership of a way of living.
